Franklin withstood an impressive performance by Santa Fe right fielder George Cook to defeat the Revolvers, 5-4, at Lawmen Ballpark. Cook went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Franklin reliever Dave Cross picked up the win to move to 1-0. Abdul-Salam Omar suffered the loss. Franklin now sits at 20-17, while Santa Fe falls to 19-18.
Mitchell Pate, who is tied for 3rd in the 3R in bases on balls with 20, contributed to the Franklin win with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Pate. "And not try to do too much."
