Submarinos Can't Finish, Lose 4-2
|
Ballard left-hander Mark Smith made an effective start against the Amarillo Submarinos at Field of the Sunchasers, leading his team to a 4-2 win. Ballard reliever Cedric Dunstone got the win, raising his record to 2-3. António Moreno was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was Steve Barnett, his 5th.
Had Reynaldo Torres not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Torres hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Beavers.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Amarillo skipper Theodore Johnston, "and it cost us."
Ballard is now 15-20, Amarillo 16-19.
