Late Rally by Mermen Secures Win
|
Newcastle right-hander Billy Sipple pitched his team to victory over the Greenport Harbor Whales at Ballpark of Robbins. The final score was 7-3. Newcastle is now riding a 3-game win streak.
Had Garm van Opdorp not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, van Opdorp hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Mermen.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Sipple, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
