Harbor Whales Get Past Gibtown for 2-1 Win
|
The Harbor Whales faced a stiff challenge from Gibtown pitcher Ernesto López, but persevered to claim a win at Wrigley Field. The final score was 2-1. López went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Greenport reliever Gilberto Guzmán picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ernesto López shouldered the loss. Earning his 4th save of the year was Jim Perry.
Ian Sankey's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a sinker from Paco Garza for a run-scoring single. It put Greenport in front, 2-1.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Sankey. "And not try to do too much."
Even with the win, the Harbor Whales have a dismal 8-22 record.
