The Ladue Rams did just enough to secure a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Clippers at Ballpark of Wellsville. Nobody did more than pitcher Brian Guilbert, who captured player of the game honors. Kagiyama Shumkichi earned the save for Ladue, his 1st of the year. The Clippers fall to 5-6 and continue their wobbly start to the 2033 season.
Had Yoshihito Kichikawa not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kichikawa hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Rams.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Kichikawa. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
