Francisco Medine pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Phoenix Hotspur Academy, despite Medine's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Fort Knox Centennial at Ballpark of Fresno. Aldo Ottens earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 1 earned run on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Picking up the save was Jon Wolfe, his 1st.
Tied up with the Hotspur Academy in the top of the fifth inning, the Centennial got a boost from right fielder Desiderio Baroncelli. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Baroncelli saw a first pitch forkball from Francisco Medine and hit a 2-run double to break the stalemate and put Fort Knox on top, 2-0.
"It was a good effort all around," said Baroncelli.
The win lifts Fort Knox to a record of 2-2.
