Shockers Come Up Short at San Diego
The San Diego Clippers knocked off the Surprise Shockers, 7-6, at Mean Green Ballpark. Sze Qi, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason San Diego won. The shortstop was 4 for 5 with a triple and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times. Ian There picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Jack Crabb was tagged with the loss. Nate Jones recorded his 1st save for San Diego.

Had Bill Fernández not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Fernández hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Clippers.

"Good to get a win," said Fernández, "but it's a long season."

With the win, San Diego pushes its record to 1-1.
