The South Beach Blaze got a strong performance from pitcher James Lendell Basford, who stymied the Gwinnett County offense en route to a 3-2 win at Pipers Ballpark. Basford went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. His record improves to 5-1. The Blaze raised their record to 51-42.

The Blaze benefited from a costly error in the top of the fifth. With Dave Broom at bat and South Beach trailing 2-0, the Gwinnett County miscue allowed South Beach to plate 1 and take the lead, 2-1.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Broom said after the game.
