Black Cats Topple Tula with Late Rally

Gwinnett County beat Chicago on the strength of starter Melvin Turner's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 4-2 win. Gwinnett County reliever Sjelle Matena got the win, raising his record to 2-0. Miracle Popoola was tagged with the loss. Ming-hoa Zhou was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 4 of 4 save opportunities.
Had Randall Givens not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Givens hit a 2-run double. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Black Cats.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Gwinnett County manager Bill Beasley. "It's usually not just one thing."
Gwinnett County, at 46-36, sits in first place in the Premier A.
