The Put-In-Bay BC eked out a 2-1 win versus the Gwinnett County Black Cats at Pipers Ballpark. Nobody did more than shortstop Álex Maroto, who captured player of the game honors. Put-In-Bay reliever Gustavo Díaz got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Ramón Serrano was tagged with the loss. The save went to Tupac Blanch, his 1st this season.
Vic Funnell's at-bat in the top of the fourth inning was a big one for Put-In-Bay. Coming to bat with no one out, runners on 1st and 3rd and Put-In-Bay leading 1-0, the third baseman hit a sacrifice fly.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Put-In-Bay manager Tim Wilson said.
Put-In-Bay is now 29-32. Gwinnett County is 31-30.
