Black Cats Slip Past Valley, 2-1
|
The Valley Blue Sox wasted an impressive 9-inning effort from starter José Pacheco, falling 2-1 to the Gwinnett County Black Cats at Pipers Ballpark. Reliever Sjelle Matena picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Juan Carlos Cruz took the loss. The Black Cats have now won 4 straight.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Colm Shapland came to bat in the bottom of the 20th. Facing Valley pitcher Juan Carlos Cruz, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Gwinnett County on top, 2-1.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Valley manager Willis Crawford. "The effort was great."
