Late Rally by Plainsmen Secures Win
|
The Nebraska Plainsmen defeated the Idaho Falls Chukars, 4-3, in USSL Single A action at Plain Old Stadium, with Nebraska pitcher António Colón named player of the game. King Kelly picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-0. Chia-kang Xiao was tagged with the loss. Morton Steele got the save, his 25th in 27 chances.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Hal Gast was at the plate when Nebraska scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Plainsmen to go in front, 4-3.
"I play this game for myself and my family, but of course it's always nice when we can win," said Colón.
The Chukars, now 22-60, have lost 4 in a row.
