Torch Outmuscle Niagara Falls, 11-9
|
Denny Miller made an impact in the 11-9 Mancelona win over Niagara Falls. Miller was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 runs. Mancelona reliever John Penton picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Juan Rincón shouldered the loss. Even with the win, the Torch have a dismal 19-56 record.
Carlos Morales had a big 2-run double for the Torch in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Mancelona trailing 8-7 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a curveball from Juan Rincón and stroked the double to center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Torch ahead, 9-8.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Torch manager Taylor Whitney. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
