River Rats Slip Past Connetquot, 6-5
|
Connetquot pitcher John Bennett gave the River Rats all they could handle, but in the end, Columbia left Columbia Stadium with a 6-5 win. Bennett allowed no earned runs on 3 hits over 6.1 innings. Columbia reliever Fred Townsend was the winner. His record is now 4-2. The losing pitcher was Caspar Irwin. The 4th-place River Rats have won 4 straight.
King Rutledge swatted a solo home run for Columbia in the bottom of the 12th. The right fielder went 2 for 5 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and batted in 1.
"Winning is contagious," said Rutledge. "We're looking forward to the next game."
