The Columbia River Rats topped the Nebraska Plainsmen, 3-1, in USSL Single A action at Columbia Stadium. The player of the game was Columbia pitcher Fred Townsend. The winning pitcher was Townsend, now 2-2. He tossed 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Kit Scheetz picked up the save, his 16th.
Daniel Arbogast hit a run-scoring double off Augusto Cardona in the bottom of the fourth, which put the River Rats in front, 1-0. In addition to the double, Arbogast had 2 singles, while going 3 for 4.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Townsend, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
The River Rats have an impressive 24-14 record.
