Multi-HR Day for Sperber as River Rats Overpower Expos, 8-2
|
The Columbia River Rats topped the Niagara Falls Expos by the score of 8-2, with the largest share of the credit going to center fielder Murray Sperber. Sperber was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the River Rats. Clyde Bavin was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. The 9th-place Expos have lost 4 straight games.
Sperber had a big at-bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the fourth inning, when he hit a solo home run. The River Rats went on to win.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Columbia manager Greg Keys.
