Bulls Need Extra Frames to Get Past Dragoons
|
Louisiana got a terrific performance from pitcher Stanley Bruner, but it wasn't enough to beat the Mt. Vernon Bulls. Mt. Vernon won the Dragoons War Memorial Stadium contest, 5-4. Bruner was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Mt. Vernon reliever Okura Tenno was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Noe Toepfer. Mt. Vernon is now 43-51. Louisiana is 51-43.
This game was not decided until Rich Watkins came to bat in the top of the tenth. With runners on 1st and 3rd and one out, the Mt. Vernon left fielder hit a sacrifice fly. The Bulls took the lead, 5-4.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Watkins told the Mt. Vernon Times.
