The Shooters had to overcome a fine effort from Minnesota pitcher Ángel Romero to grab a narrow 2-1 win at Loony Bin. Romero went 8.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Robby Oglethorpe, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2. His record now stands at 5-5. Mark Zaugg got the save, his 18th in 21 chances.
The Shooters got a big at-bat from right fielder Fletcher Megarity. For the game, Megarity was 1-4 with a home run. In the top of the fifth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Springfield a 2-1 lead.
"We didn't string enough hits together to win the game," said tight-lipped Minnesota manager Leo Sargent. "Obviously."
The Loons, at 45-52, have lost 4 straight games.
