Miners Throttle Youth, 6-1
|
The Marquette Miners went home winners at Grenadiers Ballpark, thanks in large part to starter James Bennett. Bennett silenced the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, enabling Marquette to grab the 6-1 win. Marquette reliever Jude Cordingley picked up the win to move to 2-2. Tim Yoder suffered the loss. Paul Zucarelli got credit for the save for Marquette. It was his 4th of the year.
The result might have been different for Marquette, had it not been for Sameen Shaw. The shortstop produced a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Miners ahead, 3-0. For the game, Shaw had 1 double and 3 singles in 5 at-bats.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Bennett told the Marquette News.
Marquette is now 50-46, while Phoenix Hotspur is 31-65.
