Phoenix Hotspur Wins, Mazzeo has 3 hit night
|
The Phoenix Hotspur Youth beat the Marquette Miners, 12-6, at Grenadiers Ballpark. The win was largely due to the efforts of left fielder Phil Mazzeo, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 6. The Youth are now 31-64, while the Miners fall to 49-46.
In the bottom of the 6th, designated hitter Bill Poole gave Phoenix Hotspur the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Youth had been trailing 6-5, but the two-out single off Marquette pitcher Jude Cordingley changed that -- and Phoenix Hotspur went on to win.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Phoenix Hotspur manager Junior Benítez.
