Silver Sox Bump Off Sonics, 5-2
|
The Reno Silver Sox picked up a win at Sonics Ballpark, knocking off the Atlantic City Sonics, 5-2. Starting pitcher Edgardo Salas, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The winning pitcher was Salas, now 5-5. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 4. Bob Christison closed it out for his 5th save.
The Silver Sox got a big at-bat from first baseman Marcos Costa. For the game, Costa went 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 times. In the top of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 43rd hit of the season gave Reno a 1-0 lead.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Salas.
The win puts the Silver Sox at 28-32, while the Sonics drop to 27-33.
