Valentín Rips Mercer Island for 5 Hits
|
Continentals third baseman Santiago Valentín had his way with Mercer Island pitching today at Chesapeake Grounds and mauled them for 5 hits in 5 at-bats. His efforts were all in vain, though, as the Screaming Eagles ruined his great day by toppling the Continentals, 9-4.
"I had a great day, but you've got to give Mercer Island credit, they did what they had to do to win," he told reporters after the game. "They weren't very impressed with my 5 hits."
"Oh, we noticed what Valentín did today," Screaming Eagles skipper Omer van Osch said. "He had quite a game. I can tell you this, we will pitch him a little differently the next time we face him."
Santiago Valentín singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Darby Marshall in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Valentín is hitting .272 so far this season with 20 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has 58 hits including 2 home runs, 31 walks and .368 OBP.
