The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles grabbed a 11-6 win over the Phoenix Hotspur Youth at Grenadiers Ballpark. Mercer Island right fielder Pedro Hernández went 3-5 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice to earn player of the game honors. Mercer Island reliever Luis Ochoa picked up the win to move to 1-0. Ken Morrison suffered the loss. The defending champion Screaming Eagles are off to a horrible start to the season, notching only their 2nd win in 6 games.

The most important at-bat came in the top of the 11th inning. With no one out, Ken Morrison threw a 2-1 fastball to Hernández, which he hit to left for a 2-run home run. It put Mercer Island in front, 7-5.

"It was terrific getting this win," Hernández said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."
