The Bloomington Longnecks defeated the Calgary Lynx, 6-1, in USPL Triple A action at Lookouts Ballpark, with Bloomington pitcher Gabriel Valenzuela named player of the game. The winning pitcher was Valenzuela, now 3-3. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Bloomington, at 46-45, sits in 4th place in the Premier AAA.
The Longnecks got a big at-bat from first baseman Javier De Jesús. For the game, De Jesús went 1-2 with 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 16th hit of the season gave Bloomington a 2-1 lead.
In postgame comments to the Bloomington Herald, Valenzuela said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
