Late Rally by Tritons Secures Win
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Jersey City Tritons and the Phoenix Hotspur Reserves, Jack Salt was the difference-maker. The Jersey City right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-2 win. Jersey City reliever Juan Valdéz was credited with the win, to go to 2-1. Vernon Turner took the loss for Phoenix. Jason Martin was credited with the save for Jersey City, his 1st of the season.
Rio Mence drew 2 walks in 4 trips to the plate for Jersey City. The 22-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring walk off Vernon Turner. It was his 24th walk of the season.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Phoenix manager Alfred Roberts said following the tough loss.
Jersey City now owns a record of 33-43.
