Starting pitcher Markus Widner pitched well enough to help the Salt Lake City Buzz beat the Pure Michigan Great Lakers by the score of 4-3. Widner, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 2 walks. Arthur Clough earned the save for Salt Lake City, his 1st.
With a runner on 2nd and two out in the bottom of the second inning, third baseman Fytor Ceia delivered big for the Buzz. Salt Lake City was trailing 3-1 when he belted a 2-run home run.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Pure Michigan manager Bob Thomas said following the tough loss.
Salt Lake City goes to 61-39. The win puts them 5 games up in their division.
