Lake Monsters Score Late, Upend Reserves, 3-1
|
Vermont and Athletic Club KC played a hard-fought contest at KC Reserve Stadium.
The Vermont Lake Monsters relied on the hitting of left fielder Ramón Soto to stop the Athletic Club KC Reserves, 3-1. For the game, Soto was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Pat Clement closed the door for Vermont, picking up his 8th save of the year.
Soto had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-1 curveball from Alfonso Álvarez, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Lake Monsters a 3-1 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Soto.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Vermont manager Rick Nash said.
The 4th-place Lake Monsters have won 4 in a row.
