Highlanders Clip Fur Traders in Tight Contest
|
Tacoma first baseman Dan Vanblarcom had a good game, even if his team did not. The Fur Traders dropped a 7-5 decision to Asheville at Asheville Park. Vanblarcom went 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Eric Foster, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. Jason MacGruder got the save, the 11th for him this season.
The Highlanders got a big at-bat from designated hitter Jeffery Simpson. For the game, Simpson went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 99th hit of the season gave Asheville a 2-1 lead.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Simpson.
Asheville, at 47-53, sits in 5th place in the Silver AA.
