Highlanders Topple Atoms with Late Rally

Fans who came to Atoms Field watched the Asheville Highlanders and the Bethesda Atoms fight to the finish.
A 3-RBI performance from Murray Sperber, who is rated as the 36th best prospect by BNN, helped the Asheville Highlanders beat the Bethesda Atoms, 6-5. Jason MacGruder picked up the save, his 2nd.
Had Yoshihiro Iwasaki not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Iwasaki hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Highlanders.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Asheville manager Josh Jackson.
Asheville, at 24-18, occupies third place in the Silver AA.
