Lionhearts Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
Crowds lined up early in front of KC Academy Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2033 USSL Double A season. On the mound was Kliment Spirk for the visiting Lannister United Lionhearts and Ben Walker for the hometown Athletic Club KC Academy. In a spirited contest, the Lionhearts pulled out the win, defeating the Athletic Club KC Academy by the score of 4-3. Earning player of the game honors was Ben Walker. Lannister United starter Kliment Spirk was credited with the win after throwing 111 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.
In the top of the 6th, center fielder Gonzalo Vásquez gave Lannister United the lead when he hit a 3-run home run. The Lionhearts had been trailing 3-1, but the two-out home run off Athletic Club KC Academy pitcher Ben Walker changed that -- and Lannister United went on to win.
"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Vásquez told the Lannister United Times.
