Extra-Inning Win by Highlanders over Farmers
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Farmers Field, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2033 USSL Double A season. On the mound was Jacob Broome for the visiting Asheville Highlanders and Roger Rodenburg for the hometown Lancaster Farmers. In a spirited contest, the Highlanders pulled out the win, defeating the Farmers by the score of 6-5. Earning player of the game honors was Roger Rodenburg. The win was credited to Juan Ramírez in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Javier Mejía took the loss. The save was Travis Watson's, his 1st.
The Highlanders got a big at-bat from first baseman Jeffery Simpson. For the game, Simpson went 2 for 5 with 2 singles. In the top of the tenth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 2nd hit of the season gave Asheville a 6-5 lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Simpson said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
