The Virginia Beach Deuces eked out a 6-5 win versus the Billings Polar Bears at The Igloo. Nobody did more than second baseman Stephen McManus, who captured player of the game honors. Virginia Beach reliever Tao Zhou picked up the win to move to 1-0. Martín García suffered the loss. Losses have been rare for the Polar Bears, who are now 4-1.
Gerardo Espinoza had the most critical at-bat for Virginia Beach. With two in the top of the tenth inning, Espinoza hit a 0-1 fastball from Martín García for a run-scoring single. It put Virginia Beach in front, 6-5.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Virginia Beach manager John Anderson.
