With center fielder Nobuo Yamashita leading the charge, the Tortolita Drummers defeated the Hamilton Coyotes, 6-5, at Drummers Ballpark. Yamashita, who is tied for 4th in the 3AAA in home runs with 6, went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Rudy Byrd in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Neal Davis took the loss. Oliver Huerta nailed down his 1st save.
Had Vincent Klein not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Klein hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Drummers.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Hamilton manager David Pacheco. "But we decided not to take it."
Tortolita is now 15-16, while Hamilton is 19-12.
