Suspensions Handed Out for Bench-Clearing Brawl
Friday, July 30th, 2032
The action was hot and heavy at a recent Richland-Northville game at Rails Ballpark in more ways than one. When tempers flared, both benches emptied and a mild melee ensued. The only thing hurt was a few players' pride. Two of the main figures in the brawl were suspended today by league officials. The Rails Bill Bambridge and Northville's Ricardo Fraga will each miss 11 games for their roles in the fight.
"We do not condone this kind of behavior on the field," the league announcement read. "As such, we believe that this punishment fits the actions taken by these two players. We hope that there will not be a repeat of the incident or else the consequences will be even more severe."
Bambridge is hitting .222 so far this season with 14 RBIs and 5 runs scored. He has 16 hits including 1 home run, 13 walks and .352 OBP.
So far this year Fraga has made 16 starts, tossed 99.1 innings, struck out 85 batters and walked 51. His record is 3-6 with a 4.08 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .249 batting average.
