Suspensions Handed Out for Bench-Clearing Brawl Monday, August 16th, 2032 The action was hot and heavy at a recent Gryfindor-Pennsauken game at Cayuse Ballpark in more ways than one. When tempers flared, both benches emptied and a mild melee ensued. The only thing hurt was a few players' pride. Two of the main figures in the brawl were suspended today by league officials. The Braves Austin Hathaway and Pennsauken's Martin Ortíz will each miss 6 games for their roles in the fight. "We do not condone this kind of behavior on the field," the league announcement read. "As such, we believe that this punishment fits the actions taken by these two players. We hope that there will not be a repeat of the incident or else the consequences will be even more severe." Hathaway is hitting .302 so far this season with 64 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 87 hits including 9 home runs, 46 walks and .401 OBP. So far this year Ortíz has nailed down 1 save. His won-lost record is 2-2 with a 3.10 ERA. |
