The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids picked up a win at Evergreen Park, knocking off the Portland Evergreens, 5-2. Starting pitcher Mimosa Joseph was an essential part of his team's success. Joseph picked up the win for Northern Virginia, going 6.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Iván García picked up the save for Northern Virginia, his 5th of the year.
Eustacio Tafalla helped his team jump on top from the get-go. His first time up in the top of the first, he cranked a 2-run home run to give Northern Virginia a 2-0 lead.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Joseph told reporters after the game.
Losses have been few and far between for the Evergreens, who are now 12-5.
