Clift Handcuffs Seawolves, Farmers Seize 1-0 Advantage in R1

Their bats were silent and Lancaster had a rookie on the mound. No problem.
On a day when the Farmers struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 22-year-old starter Mark Clift. The right-hander quieted the Long Island Seawolves at Ballpark of Remsen to help Lancaster take the 3-1 decision and seize a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 SL AA Championship.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 3rd and two out in the top of the seventh inning. That's when shortstop José Xirau drew a walk. The Farmers went on to win.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Farmers manager Coy Knight, "I like our chances."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Ballpark of Remsen in East Hampton. Slated to start are Montrell Baxa for the Lancaster Farmers and J.J. Spencer for the the Long Island Seawolves.
