Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks manager Mark Harrison knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 21-year-old right-hander Seong-hyeon Pak silenced the host San Bernardino Grasshoppers at Field of the Grasshoppers today. The Thunder Hawks shut out the Grasshoppers by a final score of 5-0, to give the Thunder Hawks a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 3L AA Championship.

Ft. Polk South center fielder Sigi Lang helped the Thunder Hawks go up, 2-0, in the top of the second inning. With the game tied, Lang hit a 2-run home run off San Bernardino pitcher Grover Lowdermilk.

"We played a good game and came out on top," said Pak.

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in San Bernardino. The scheduled starters for the game are Carlos González for Ft. Polk South and Felipe Casanova for San Bernardino.
