Road Win Lifts Memphis to 1-0 Lead in R1
|
Memphis Music manager knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.
Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 20-year-old left-hander Jian-gun Fei silenced the host Gibtown Elephants at Wrigley Field today. The Music shut out the Elephants by a final score of 1-0, to give the Music a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 PL R Championchip.
Memphis grabbed control in the top of the seventh. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Jim Herries delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 1-0 in favor of the Music.
"We lost," Gibtown manager Harris Bailey said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Branlyn Jaraba for Memphis and Ernesto López for Gibtown.
