As the Put-In-Bay BC and Columbia River Rats battled through extra innings, it was a rookie who made the difference.

Young Put-In-Bay second baseman Oscar McMillan, 24, took player of the game honors at Columbia Stadium today with a strong hitting performance in the 11-inning marathon. McMillan went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once during the 5-4 Put-In-Bay win over the River Rats. The win gives the BC a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 PL A Championship.

This game was not decided until late. With two out in the top of the 11th, Mike Elzey drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The BC took the lead, 5-4.

"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Put-In-Bay manager Tim Wilson told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in Columbia. The scheduled starters for the game are Jason Huggins for the Put-In-Bay BC and Jacob Petithomme for the the Columbia River Rats.
