Despite a great performance by Northern Virginia starter Eric Matson, the Philadelphia 1776 BC defeated the Rainbow Mermaids by the score of 4-3 at Atlantica today. Matson threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball to earn player of the game honors, but could not prevent the BC from moving one game closer to the Round 2. Philadelphia 1776 now leads the Silver League Championship - .
Sam Quint, who is tied for 2nd in the SL with a .584 slugging percentage, aided the Philadelphia 1776 cause with a 2-run single in the top of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Quint. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
