Union City No Match for Kreuze
|
The Amarillo Submarinos shut out the Union City Hillers 7-0 today behind the strong pitching of Ed Kreuze. Kreuze surrendered only 5 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 10.
Following the last out, Kreuze appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Union City manager César Navejar, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Kreuze's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Hillers skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Submarinos press conference, Kreuze confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Kreuze said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Amarillo manager Theodore Johnston added.
So far this year Kreuze has made 13 starts, tossed 103.1 innings, struck out 88 batters and walked 24. His record is 8-5 with a 2.96 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .244 batting average.
