Mermen Pull Off Thrilling Win in Extras
|
The Newcastle Mermen got a rain-soaked win over the Germantown Uruguayans at Ballpark of Albuquerque.
The Newcastle Mermen powered past the Germantown Uruguayans, 11-5, at Ballpark of Albuquerque. Roberto Díaz was 4 for 5 with a triple, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs, to lead the charge. The winner was Newcastle reliever Geoff Pruitt, now 3-1. The loser was Bradley Leeder.
Newcastle relied on the hitting of Jorge Castillo to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Mermen on top, 6-5. For the game, Castillo had 1 home run and 2 singles in 6 at-bats.
In postgame remarks, Castillo said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."
