Mermen Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Newcastle Mermen eked out a 4-3 win versus the Capital Hill Interns at Newcastle Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Fernando Robles, who captured player of the game honors. Newcastle reliever Stephen Welch was the winner. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Keiji Yano. Newcastle is now 37-41. Capital Hill is 39-39.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Newcastle catcher Sergio Aguero, facing Keiji Yano, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Mermen the 4-3 win.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Robles said.
