Ogallala rode a decent outing from starter Miguel Ávila to victory over the Greenport Harbor Whales at Nebraska Aquarium. The final score was 7-3. The winning pitcher was Ávila, now 9-2. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 9. Pepe Pereira closed the game out for Ogallala, earning his 6th save.
Alejandro Cantú had a big run-scoring double for the Octopi in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Ogallala leading 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from Patrick Furzer and stroked the double to left. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Octopi ahead, 4-2.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Cantú. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
Greenport has now lost 4 consecutive games.
