Hillers Stymie Amarillo, Take 2-0 Win
|
The Union City Hillers got a stellar performance from pitcher Wally Blue, who handcuffed the Amarillo offense en route to a 2-0 win at Crusaders Ballpark. Earning his 14th save of the year was Kenny McDonald. Union City has now won 3 straight, while the Submarinos have lost 3 in a row.
Ken Barger had a big run-scoring single for the Hillers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Union City leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Ed Kreuze and stroked the single to left. It was his 73rd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hillers ahead, 2-0.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Blue said.
