Dutchmen Come Back Late to Top Thundercats
|
The New Amsterdam Dutchmen beat the Richardson City Thundercats, 7-5, at The Thunder Dome. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Hank Wilder, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. New Amsterdam reliever Alfonso Zapata got the win, raising his record to 3-0. Enrique García was tagged with the loss. WyDale Curry picked up the save for New Amsterdam, his 14th of the year.
António Martínez had the most critical at-bat for New Amsterdam. With two in the top of the ninth inning, Martínez hit a 0-2 fastball from Enrique García for a run-scoring single. It put New Amsterdam in front, 6-5.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said New Amsterdam manager Sal Gaudio.
The Dutchmen' win now puts them at 20-15.
