Canucks Shut Out Mermen
|
Pitcher Yen-ti Xiang was sensational for the Moose Jaw Canucks in his team's 1-0 triumph over the Newcastle Mermen. Xiang received player of the game honors, while picking up the win. In 6.2 innings, Xiang surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Gi-hyuk Tang earned the save for Moose Jaw, his 2nd of the year.
The Canucks got a big at-bat from designated hitter José Ayala. For the game, Ayala was 2-3 with 2 singles and a walk. In the top of the first, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 28th hit of the season gave Moose Jaw a 1-0 lead.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Ayala said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The Canucks improved to 8-23.
