Cougars Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
The Valley View Cougars bested the Newcastle Mermen, 11-7, at Newcastle Stadium. Pedro Ortíz was named player of the game. He went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 4 runs. Gavin Botterell got the win, improving to 4-0. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 9 hits and 7 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 2. The Cougars raised their record to 13-6.

A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the seventh inning when the Cougars sent teenager Salvador Hernández to the plate against Mermen hurler Alfredo Zamora. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a first pitch fastball to score 1.

"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Reggie Adams said.
