Canucks Subdue Winter Haven, 4-2
|
It was a good time at Foresters Stadium, where fans came to watch the Winter Haven Sun Sox and Moose Jaw Canucks get after it.
The Canucks faced a stiff challenge from Winter Haven pitcher Sjelle Matena, but persevered to claim a win at Foresters Stadium. The final score was 4-2. Matena went 8 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Gi-hyuk Tang picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Sjelle Matena was tagged with the loss. Nino Ghannam closed the game out for Moose Jaw, earning his 1st save.
Michael Hughes had a big 2-run single for the Canucks in the bottom of the second inning. With Moose Jaw leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Sjelle Matena and stroked the single to left. It was his 11th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Canucks ahead, 3-0.
Hughes told a Moose Jaw Gazette reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
Moose Jaw is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 2nd in 8 games.
